Jenn Gibbon-Lynch joins the Family Mediation Trust (FMT) as a consultant to the board, bringing with her a profound commitment to ensuring the voices of children are central to family mediation and justice processes. As a representative of the Family Justice Young People’s Board (FJYPB), Jenn will be instrumental in integrating young people's perspectives into FMT's work. She will be bringing a young person from the FJYPB to trustee meetings to ensure the voice of the child is included in what we do and how we do it.
Jenn is deeply involved with the FJYPB, an organisation comprising over 75 children and young people aged seven to 25 from diverse backgrounds across England and Wales. The board's members bring a rich tapestry of firsthand experiences and insights, having either navigated the family justice system themselves or possessing a strong interest in advocating for children's rights within family courts.
The FJYPB’s mission centers on providing a unique perspective on family justice matters. They collaborate actively with various stakeholders and young people's groups within the family justice domain, ensuring a robust and inclusive approach to their work. Jenn’s role on the board exemplifies her dedication to this mission.
A representative from the FJYPB will offer an opening perspective from the child's point of view, delving into the nuanced challenges that children often face amidst family breakdowns. Beyond their personal experiences, the FJYPB plays a pivotal role in supporting the Family Justice Board. They actively participate in meetings, contributing directly to decision-making processes, and championing a child-centric approach.
The FJYPB has achieved significant milestones, including the FJYPB National Charter. This charter articulates the aspirations of children and young people within family justice services and serves as a compass for professionals striving to improve the experiences of children and young people within the family courts. Jenn’s involvement with the FJYPB underscores her commitment to these principles and her dedication to positive change.
